Skagit Adult Day Program
Greetings friends, As we move into fall we thought it would be good to send a note out to update everyone on Skagit Adult Day Program. We feel fortunate that we were able to operate on a remote capacity since our shut down on April 1st, however, we have been working with a reduced staff since July and we scaled back our remote support. We appreciate all of you who have continued to stay in touch with us over the last few months, it makes us happy to know that everyone has settled into this new normal, but we cannot wait to get back to our more regular routine! While we are so disappointed that we have not been cleared to reopen, we remain hopeful that things are moving in the right direction. We believe that we will be able to open once Skagit County moves into Phase 3. We cannot wait to inform you all with good news once we have a firm reopening date and our best practices in place so that we can welcome our clients back in the safest manner. We know this has not been an easy process for you and your loved ones. We want to thank you all again for your patience during this challenging time. As always, if you need any support, please reach out to us! Even with our reduced staff, we are still here to help in any way that we can. You can always give us a call at the Bradford House 360-755-1235 or you can email us at info@skagitadultdayprogram.org Warmest regards, Leigh Ann Executive Director
It is was with great sadness that we said good-bye to Dr. Winifred Bradford this July 19th, 2020. Winnie, as she was affectionally known as, saw the vision and need for a social day program in our community. Her dream was that there would be one in each town. Before there was a SADP, Winnie volunteered her time to families caring for someone with dementia. She saw the need for the one being cared for to be in the company of their peers and the need for the caregiver to have time for themselves. Winnie contacted Northwest Regional to get their input and support, she then rounded up an amazing task force of individuals who shared her vision. With this task force that Winnie put together, SADP became a 501 c 3 in October of 1992. This organization was support financially by the board members, community members, churches, and service organizations in our county. Winnie went to work applying for grants which we received. Northwest Regional also supported us. Today, we are still supported by the community, churches, service organization, Northwest Regional Area on Aging, from grants, and fundraisers. The board members and the staff would like to acknowledge and let others know how very much we have appreciated Winnie’s hard work and that of her husband Lester giving of their time and money, always thinking of others. The staff and families all know how so important it is to have a social day program in a community to support the ones giving the care and the care receiver. The quality of life for the families was vastly improved with the creation of SADP and moments of joy and friendship achieved. Families could continue to care for their loved ones at home for a longer time. Winnie will be missed always. I was privileged to work with Winnie in the beginning and served with her for many years. I believe Winnie and Lester are in heaven together, looking to see what they can do to serve others. Love to Winnie’s family for sharing their parents and for the monetary support that they gave too when money was tight. Thank you! Nancy Gentry, board member
